Algorythm Records 001
The Barcelona-based party series Algorythm Records from FRAXA and Paula GM launches their wax imprint with a stylish VA. The four-tracker comes correct with a clutch of tracks from co-founder FRAXA as well as Alexandre Vazquez, Mihai Pol, and our focus artists Miroloja.
Side A opens with a masterclass from Romanian producer Mihai Pol, who delivers a track that blends cropped, intricate drums with a wide palette of sonic textures. His signature ability to weave rhythm and complexity shines, particularly as the tumbled drums cascade unpredictably before snapping back into a groove that keeps everything locked in. It’s a deep and expertly constructed cut that showcases his finesse in minimal house production.
Next up, FRAXA, co-founder of the label, holds nothing back. His contribution builds on a deep, crunchy bassline that anchors the track with intent. A powerful sub-bass stretches beneath the entire production, supporting crisp percussion and subtly layered vocal samples that add a cerebral touch. It’s a confident and polished effort that matches the caliber of the EP’s strongest offerings, and firmly plants Side A as a highlight of this VA.
Side B kicks off with Miroloja’s “Stella,” a track defined by the duo’s trademark crispy grooves and buoyant basslines. The energy is palpable from the outset, as waning synths drift in to cast a darker hue over the otherwise upbeat momentum. Whispered vocal fragments signal a shift, while robotic voice clips inject a punch of futuristic character, amplifying the raw drive established early on.
Closing out the release is Alexandre Vázquez with “Blue Bird,” a low-slung, psychedelic-tinged number that veers into more stripped-back territory. Pitched-down vocals and shimmering pads lend a dreamy, introspective vibe that contrasts beautifully with the rest of the EP. It’s a thoughtful finish, bringing a sense of depth and variation that rounds out the VA with finesse.
