He has recently released music on labels such as \u2018For those that Knoe\u2019, \u2018Revoke\u2019, \u2018Subwax\u2019 and \u2018Firescope\u2019. \r\n\r\nBorn and raised in Westmeath, Derek got an early taste for finely crafted melodic techno through compilations like Network\u2019s \u2018Bio-Rhythms\u2019 and Warp\u2019s \u2018Pioneers of the Hypnotic Groove\u2019. Having been a fan of bands such as Kraftwerk and Depeche Mode through his formative years, Derek felt drawn to this new sound coming from Detroit, Sheffield and Leeds.\r\n\r\nRecognising the home made \u2018punk\u2019 ethos of early \u2018Bleep techno\u2019 he began to pick up second hand instruments, initially investing in a cheetah sampler and boss drum machine.\r\n\r\nDerek then set about creating his own sound, a sound that owed much to the techno pioneers, B12, the Black Dog, As One, Nexus 21 and Rhythmatic to name but a few.\r\n\r\nIn 2001 Derek launched his own label \u2018Trident Recordings\u2019 and released the \u2018Copper Beech e.p.\u2019 (the only release to date) a collection of deep soulful techno.
