In Tools, Pierre Bastien explores his fascination with ‘elsewhere’ using instruments of his own making. Built from Meccano parts, these mechanical assemblages create music that emphasizes raw materiality over narrative. The record features a rhythm section, harmonic section with six valves, a rotating nail violin, eight rotating flute mouthpieces, and an automated skeleton of a record player. Bastien’s process highlights discovery and the expansion of known worlds.
