A dub masterclass in session with Rhythm & Sound’s unfathomably deep 2001 treks into the aether. As Rhythm & Sound, Moritz von Oswald and Mark Ernestus pursued a downbeat sound from their previous projects’ energies. Minted with reggae mutations in 1996, they transitioned to a more oblique style with ‘Trace’ and ‘Aground / Aerial’, distilling their vaporous and intoxicating aesthetic. Using Detroit hardware and Jamaican dub lessons, they crafted studio-as-instrument production, inspiring a genre yet unmatched.
