R. Villalobos reimagines: Stars Planets Dust Me
Tom Ravenscroft at 6music and others have showcased AMO1’s album. Now, Ricardo Villalobos reimagines it. Known for reshaping techno and electronica, Villalobos applies his innovative approach to remixing ‘Black Apple Pink Apple.’ His technique, compared to a jazz drummer’s, breaks traditional structure, leading to unexpected and open-minded creations.
Villalobos describes his process as a search for electroacoustic landscapes, inspired by the original’s songwriting and instrumentation. He focuses on stripping down the pop songs to their core elements for his remixes. The project expanded from one remix to reimagining the entire album, introducing a new perspective.
Mo Morris, connected to Villalobos since the early 2000s, shares their collaboration’s evolution. Villalobos, a fan of AMO1, was impressed with their demos, leading to the current project.
The album ‘Ricardo Villalobos reimagines: Stars Planets Dust Me’ ranges from Balearic pop to deep dubby techno. Villalobos’s light touch on initial tracks enhances the original sonics, while later tracks boldly explore dancefloor styles. The album includes four ‘klub’ remixes.
Mo praises Villalobos’s unique sound, likening it to other notable artists. Villalobos’s style is distinct and cosmic, offering a journey through stars and planets in his music.
